Class of 2019

MBC Old Girl Maddy Snell (Class of 2019) has achieved an extraordinary feat, successfully completing the English Channel swim in support of Dementia Australia.

On 22 July, Maddy swam an incredible 43 kilometres across the English Channel, completing the challenge in 10 hours and 26 minutes. One of the world’s toughest endurance swims, the achievement was the culmination of months of dedicated training, determination and preparation.

Maddy took on the challenge in memory of her beloved nana, who bravely lived with dementia. Inspired by her nana’s resilience, Maddy used her passion for swimming to raise funds and awareness for Dementia Australia, supporting individuals, families and carers affected by the disease.

Making the achievement even more meaningful, Maddy crossed the finish line on what would have been her nana’s birthday.

Her journey is a wonderful example of how determination and personal purpose can come together to make a difference beyond the individual. Through an incredible physical challenge, Maddy has honoured her nana’s memory while helping shine a light on the importance of support, education and care for those impacted by dementia.

Moreton Bay College is incredibly proud of Maddy and the strength, courage and generosity she has shown throughout this journey. Congratulations, Maddy, on conquering the English Channel and turning an extraordinary personal achievement into an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the community.
